Be our eyes and ears
Although the Government has ostensibly revoked the Regional Plan 2011, we have noticed that the state law enforcement authorities have not played a proactive role in preventing the various violations we have encountered over the past few weeks. Given these circumstances it may be prudent to assume that these illegal activities will go on, and unscrupulous developers will continue to destroy the land with impunity.
It is up to every one of us to be vigilant and keep a watch for the following activities and report these immediately (see report violations):
1. Tree felling/burning
2. Hill cutting,
3. Construction within Coastal Regulatory Zone Areas, (see CRZ)
4. Filling of low lying fields, ponds, water bodies.
5. Destruction of mangroves, and filling of tidal backwaters
Photograph these sites and mail us the pictures. It would help if you first checked if all permissions are obtained so that we can differentiate between authorized and illegal activities. You can apply under the Right to Information (see RTI) Act for copies of these permissions.
